NTU SCSE Computing Challenge 2020
Jurong Pioneer Junior College students competed in NTU SCSE's Computing Challenge 2020, building web and mobile apps on AWS. Team Beta earned a Special Mention in the Technical Category.
School of Computer Science and Engineering, NTU (SCSE) hosted its second Computing Challenge on 18th and 19th of January at The Arc. 20 teams from Junior Colleges battled to clinch the top prizes. The hackathon event saw two days of development where teams had to complete their web or mobile application designs using Amazon Web Service platform. After which, each team was allocated ten minutes to pitch and present a live demo to a panel of judges. AC Acad Prof Nicholas Vun and Prof Oh Hong Lye spearheaded the event.

The competition had three objectives. 1) Provide an opportunity for participants to learn new computing skills, identify and resolve problems faced. 2) Promote Computer Science and Engineering in an application-oriented environment, with a tinge of competition thrown in. 3) Cultivate good friendships and team spirit. A project brings people together to share ideas and provide inspiration. Collaboration is the cornerstone to effective project planning, management and execution.
The apps were scored in the following areas - creativity, entrepreneurship and technicality. Two teams comprising computing students and InfoComm Club members represented Jurong Pioneer Junior College to compete against schools such as Hwa Chong Institution, National Junior College and Dunman High. It was a close competition and many teams were evenly matched. Himanshu Sharma (19S23), Vasanth Sreeram (19S23), Lim En Cheng (19S24) and Mahima Sharma (19S24) from Team Beta impressed the judges and their team was awarded a Special Mention in the Technical Category.
